چکیده

Radio communication speed has improved by leaps and bounds with developments in communication technology. In a wireless LAN, clients connect to a network to communicate with access points. Various approaches have benn used over the years to maximize the efficiency of access point configurations, such as the simplex method, Tabu search, and the genetic algorithm. This paper describes how genetic programming can be applied to the problem in a more deterministic function to improve the convergence speed. Linear genetic programming using arrays to shorten the running time and ”bonsai” manipulation, hierarchichal pruning of genes based on evaluation of terminal nodes, are proposed. An experiment was carried out to compare the performance with that of standard genetic programming. Consequently, it was confirmed that linear genetic programming reduced the running time and that the proposed ”bonsai” manipulation improves not only the convergence speed, but also the evaluation results.

Performance Improvement of Expanded Integrated Local Area Networks (RESEARCH NOTE)

In Local Area Networks (LAN) connected together by bridges, flow control and smooth traffic in the network is very important. However, congestion at bridges can cause intensive loss of received frames. In addition, the received frames are thrown away and have to be retransmitted by the source station, which causes more congestion and massive reduction in the overall network throughput. The netw...

Enhancing 802.11 with Relay-Enabled PCF

Integrating wireless LAN (WLAN) techniques with the third generation cellular networks has become a promising way to improve the performance of wireless systems. As WLANs play an important role in such heterogeneous systems, the performance of WLANs becomes important to the whole system. It is well known that WLANs provide a physical layer multi-rate capability, and hence MAC layer mechanisms a...

Extension of Basic Service Set by Multihop Routing in IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN Standard

In this paper, a multihop routing extension to IEEE 802.11 is presented. Multihop extension preserves the traditional single-hop networks where the service infrastructure is constructed by many access points but it also adds the flexibility of ad hoc networks where wireless transfer through mobile stations is allowed in multiple hop. Multihop extension can reduce the number of required access p...

Mixed-mode WLAN: the integration of ad hoc mode with wireless LAN infrastructure

In the traditional IEEE 802.11 wireless LAN using infrastructure mode, all users share the same channel and all packets are forwarded by an access point (AP). As a result, as the number of users in the cell increases, the throughput for each user degrades substantially. If there are users communicating with each other within the cell (as in conferencing or file exchange applications), such thro...
